Cosplay Emergency Kit | What to Bring With You When Attending a Con

Welcome back to C2E2 Week, Nerds!

As convention season opens, many con-goers and cosplayers are gearing up to hit the show floor in all their nerdy glory. If you’re planning on showing up in your newly-crafted cosplay, you’re probably feeling a mixture of excitement and worry; the excitement to show off your new costume, but the worry that “What if something goes wrong with it?”

Now that my Princess Peach cosplay is finally done, I am having those same feelings, too. But, I’ve compiled a few items to keep on hand in case anything should go array–along with some other necessities you should have with you for a weekend at a con.

Either way, I hope these tips help to make your convention weekend worry-free!

Mini Hot Glue Gun

The ever-reliable hot glue gun is a MUST for all cosplayers. Keep this in your hotel room in case you need to make a quick repair in between show floor strolls. Additionally, have a packet of hot glue sticks at the ready, because you can never have too many.

A Cosplay Repair Kit

Keep things like a needle and thread, extra sewing notions, sequins, beads, and other odds and ends just in case these should fall off. Also, it’s a good idea to make duplicates of small costume pieces just in case you should lose one along the way.

Travel-Sized Fabric Steamer

These are great little devices, as some materials don’t fare well when pressed with a hot iron. All you do is fill it with water, turn it on, and wait for things to get steamy! This is particularly good if your piece has been cooped up in your suitcase for an extended period of time.

Febreze, Stain Remover Pens, Wrinkle Release, and Lint Rollers

While you’re taking care of your garment, consider giving it a spritz of some fabric refresher, and give it a good once-over with the lint roller to pick up any stray hair or loose threads. It’s also a good idea to keep some wrinkle release spray on hand in case you don’t have time to iron or steam, and a stain remover pen or wipe on your person in case anything should spill.

Phone Charger / External Batteries

This one is a no-brainer, but it should be stated: make sure you have the power needed so you can take videos, photos, Snapchats, and Insta stories at the convention all day long!

Snacks and Water!

Convention Center food tends to be horribly over-priced, and you need to save your pennies for all of the cool stuff you’ll buy at the con. Though it may be a little cumbersome, having a few protein bars and a refillable water bottle will prove to be lifesavers as you stroll the show floor.

Stay prepared this convention season! You’ll never know what might happen out there! If you like the tips and tricks given in this post, let me know! What’s one item that you cannot live without at a convention?
