Casual Cosplay of the Day | June

Welcome back to another installment of Nerd•ily’s Casual Cosplay of the Day! This month’s installment is a kick-ass blend of female empowerment and grace, because we’re taking inspiration from the one, the only: Wonder Woman!

With the recent release of the new Wonder Woman movie, I had to honor this amazing character with not one, but two casual cosplay outfits! When the premiere date for the film was announced, I instantly knew that I had to plan a month to devote to such an iconic character. I had a ton of fun curating the outfits and make-up looks for these two ensembles, and I hope you all enjoy what I’ve come up with. Without further ado, here are my two casual cosplays!

Outfit #1: Glamorous Heroine

The first look I envisioned involved this magnificently full maxi skirt I’ve had for a few years. It’s a white skirt with blue flowers, each with a coral red center. Since Wonder Woman’s iconic look depicts her wearing patterned bottoms and a red top, that’s the basic outfit structure I went with.

While this look may be a bit more dressy for everyday wear, it’s elegant and powerful—just like Diana.

To accessorize, I added one of my favorite gold necklaces to add some sparkle: a delicate necklace encrusted with tiny stars. I also wore my favorite gold ear cuff, and accentuated my natural waist with a beige belt, adorned with gold accents. For shoes, I put on some classic red wedge sandals for height.

To create a similar look: pair a primary color-patterned skirt or shorts with a lightweight red top. The good thing about a Wonder Woman-inspired look is that any outfit lends itself well to the summer season, so think about short-sleeved and sleeveless tops, and comfy sandals or open toe wedges. Additionally, Wonder Woman has worn both silver and gold, so pick accessories in either metallic tone.

For make-up, I went with the same primary color motif, but amped it up with lots of glitter and shimmer. This first look was much more vampy, with a red and navy smoky eye and bright red lips.

I unfortunately couldn’t get in a good light for either make-up to show the major differences of my two looks, so let me know if you would like me to do a mini tutorial in the comments below!

Finally, for both these looks, I curled my bangs in a mock-victory roll style to represent Wonder Woman’s original hairdo. If you’re not about that life, or you have longer hair than I, you can also create simple waves.

Outfit #2: 70s-Inspired

This outfit is much more casual than the previous one, but I am wearing the same red top and sticking with the color-blocking. The major differences between these two looks is—obviously—the jeans, the make-up, and the shoes. This look is reminiscent of the Linda Carter Wonder Woman, and pulls loosely from 70s fashion trends.

More practical for everyday activities, or for kicking butt, go with your favorite comfy blue jeans and lightweight top. Pair with minimalistic gold jewelry, and finish with gladiator-style sandals.

(The jeans I’m wearing are actually embellished by me. You can learn how to do the same thing in a tutorial coming next week!)

For make-up, I stuck with the ruddy and gold tones, and kept the look cleaner and more simple than the former. However, I still stuck with the shimmer and glitter. Again, I didn’t get any good pictures of this look, so if you would like to see how I created this one, leave a comment below. But, in general, stick with nudes, champagnes, corals, and brighter reds for the eyes. On my lips, I have on a red tinted balm to accentuate my pout without being too heavy.

I really love how clean and easy this overall look is, and I can definitely see myself wearing it multiple times this summer. Who knew being Wonder Woman could be this effortless?

I am seriously so stoked to see this new movie, more so now that it’s garnered tons of positive reviews. Have you seen it yet? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments below (spoiler free, please)! Also, don’t forget to show me your Wonder Woman Casual Cosplay of the Day on social media by using #CCOD #nerdilyccod!
