Casual Cosplay of the Day | March

I know my posting schedule has been a bit hectic lately, but I sure as hell did not forget about our #CCOD for March!

If you’re just jumping in on this bandwagon, then welcome to Casual Cosplay of the Day! Each month, I dressed to a particularly nerdy theme, and invite you Nerds to participate through casual cosplay! More details can be found in January’s post.

This month’s installment encapsulates two of my favorite things: fashion and comics. Because I love comics so much, I figured I had to dedicate one month to celebrating the awesome characters I’ve come to know and love since diving into the community. So, when I was planning out #CCOD, I was instantly inspired by one of my favorite versions of Batgirl by the talented Babs Tarr.

The inspiration came from the fashion trends Barbara Gordon wears in the Brendan Fletcher comic series from 2014. Babs Tarr creates some of the most amazing ensembles for Barbara, and her flair for fashion always gives me #stylegoals.

Rather than come up with an outfit that looks like one of Batgirl’s uniforms, I decided that I’d try my hand at a Babs Tarr/Barbara Gordon look that hopefully makes these two ladies proud! Here is my attempt at an ultra-stylish look, straight from the pages of Batgirl:

I took the basic color scheme of Batgirl’s uniform and applied them into the outfit, so lots of yellows, purples, and black. I incorporated these colors into a super comfy outfit, with this simple mustard yellow dress, purple accents, and fun tights.

Because Barbara Gordon has that trendy edge to her, I added mixed metal touches, like a choker and distressed denim jacket. I also represented the Batman/Batgirl universe by wearing my favorite Batgirl symbol necklace, and these adorable Batman tights.

For makeup, there’s a blend of gold tones and purples to form a smokey eye that would make Barbara proud. For extra drama—and to pay homage to Babs Tarr’s artistic style—I applied fluttery false lashes and a glitter-tastic liquid lipstick.

The overall look turned out better than I could have ever expected, and I love wearing this outfit. It’s perhaps one of my favorites at the moment.

Now it’s time to show me your comic-themed looks! Don’t forget to tag me and use #nerdilyccod so that I can see your creations! Who would you casual cosplay as? What’s your favorite comic at the moment? Let me know in the comments below!

Life was meant to be lived nerdily, so what are you waiting for?
