Funday Friday: All the Goodness

I was originally going to do a Star Trek edition of Funday Friday, but that has to be postponed due to ALL THE NEWS THAT’S COME OUT THE PAST TWO WEEKS.

…too much enthusiasm?

If you’ve been on social media lately, you might have heard about some of these nerdy developments, but here’s a Funday Friday recap of everything that’s coming our way:

  • Indiana Jones RemakeRaiders-of-the-Lost-Ark-indiana-jones-3677988-1280-720

Okay, I have a lot of mixed feelings about this, and I’ll talk more about it in an upcoming blog post, but last week I saw an article on io9 that states, “Disney is ‘eyeing’ [Chris] Pratt for an Indiana Jones revival.” Whether that means a fifth installment in the hugely successful Indiana Jones film series, or a complete revamp of the classic movies,  it’s a big shock to hear otherwise. For those who love Chris Pratt–and really, how can you not–this is exciting to hear. For those who are fandom purists–and love the original Indiana Jones films–this is an unsettling thought. The movie could be good, or it could be bad. We just have to wait to find out.

  • Ghostbusters Remakewallpaper-420332

Another remake was announced last week concerning the greatest comedy of the 80s: Ghostbusters. An all-female cast, which includes Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones, most certainly will be a revamp of the Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd film. For more information on the film, check out this ABC News video about the announcement.

  • Live-Action Legend of Zelda Seriesb2a

“Excuuuuuuuuse me, princess?!” It’s just in a planning stage right now, but a recent Wall Street Journal article states that Netflix is developing a live-action series based off of the Nintendo game Legend of Zelda. All we can do is hope that it will be a better adaptation than the Super Mario Bros. movie. I don’t know if I could handle “EVERYBODY DO THE GANONDORF.”

  • Superman v. Batman Trailer Teaser

    a.k.a. Dawn of Bat-ffleck

Word has gotten out that a trailer for the highly anticipated Superman v. Batman movie might be released soon. Allen Kayne of MoviePilot stated in an article released yesterday that rumors began after movie theater workers began tweeting about the trailer, which was sent along with the film Jupiter Ascending to theaters across the country. Jupiter Ascending was released today in theaters. Whether or not the rumors are true, I’m still tempted to go to a showing of Jupiter Ascending just in case.

  • The End of The New 52 DC Comicsbatgirl-new-52-1

If you’ve read any recent comic books by DC, you probably would have noticed a stamp in the upper corner of the cover. All the “52” meant in The New 52 was a relaunch of 52 new comic book series, but this line of comics that DC cranked out had some really good titles and plot lines (ahem, Batgirl). IGN reported that “the story continuity will remain the same, so this is not another reboot or a return to the pre-New 52 DC Universe.” So there’s nothing to fear!

  • LEGO Doctor Who

Note: NOT the actual set. This is fan-made.
Note: NOT the actual set. This is fan-made.

For the Whovians out there, LEGO has announced that they will produce a Doctor Who set that will be released “this year.” One can only hope that this set will spin off into an equally fantastic video game, like the LEGO Batman and LEGO Harry Potter games.

Remember when I said that the New Year has so much to offer? Well, look at what it’s offered us in the last two weeks! There are lots of things to anticipate now!

  1. I have no idea how I missed the “Indiana Jones” news but if that’s true it’s huge. I can see why Disney would want to reboot the franchise and Pratt in my opinion would be a nice choice. (Right now it seems like he is more of a funnyman but maybe the new “Jurassic Park” will add some grit to his c.v.) No matter what people won’t like it. But realistically I feel like the best “reboots” are the ones which bring in a strong director with a vision for the piece. And Disney is the master of this.
